A completely unique album from a completely unique saxophonist!  George Braith got his start at Blue Note in a Roland Kirk sort of style, but this criminally neglected 1967 session for Prestige is very different altogether.

Grateful Dead: Dick’s Picks Vol. 22—Kings Beach Bowl, Kings Beach Lake Tahoe, CA 2/23-2/24/68 (2-CD Set)

Relatively few concert recordings exist of the Dead at this early stage of their career, which is reason enough to add this Pick to your collection, but when you consider that these two nights of shows include the ENTIRE set of songs from the as-yet-unreleased album Anthem of the Sun (with several of the tunes appearing in an incredible, never to be duplicated medley of “Alligator” /“China Cat Sunflower” /“The Eleven”/”Caution”/”Feedback”) and an early version of the classic “Dark Star” medley (with “China Cat Sunflower” replacing “St. Stephen” as the song between “Dark Star” and “The Eleven”), Vol. 22 rises into the indispensable category.

It’s safe to say that most record collections that include the Grateful Dead also include at least a couple of reggae albums; the audiences for the Dead and reggae share a love for easy, loping rhythms and homespun harmonies, not to mention a countercultural bent.

THE AMAZING RHYTHM ACES: Stacked Deck/Too Stuffed to Jump—from the Original Analog Master Tapes. CD

With their unique blend of Memphis soul, country and pop, Stacked Deck and Too Stuffed to Jump have long been hailed as two of the finest country rock albums of the ‘70s, but their availability has been spotty, as contractual reasons (the Amazing Rhythm Aces recorded for ABC but the masters ended up being controlled by Sony) delayed their release on CD, and the twofer that offered both albums has been out of print for several years.

Mason Williams

  • The Releases That Brought Prodigiously Talented Multi-Instrumentalist/Writer/ Poet/Artist Mason Williams to Fame

  • Phonograph Record Includes the #1 Hit Instrumental "Classical Gas"

  • Ear Show Makes Its CD Debut

  • Liner Notes by Gene Sculatti Include Exclusive Quotes from Mason Williams

  • Unique Listening Experiences from a True American Original

He won an Emmy Award as head writer for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and has published many books of poetry and prose. He is an accomplished visual artist, with a piece (“Bus”) in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection. And he penned and performed a #1 hit instrumental (“Classical Gas”). He’s Mason Williams, and that brief summation of his accomplishments doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of the man’s many talents. Now, we at Real Gone Music are very, very proud to present the first two solo albums Williams recorded for Warner Bros., the records that introduced America to one of its true originals. As you might expect given his background, these albums are quirky, eclectic and wholly unique affairs combining pop, rock, folk, bluegrass and no shortage of whimsy; they’re like having a conversation with a brilliant raconteur who also happens to be a prodigiously talented musician. Gene Sculatti provided the notes for both releases, with fresh quotes from Mason Williams himself. Essential listening.

The first 25 customers to buy the album from us get an autographed booklet. First-come, first-served, only one autographed copy per customers order allowed. AUTOGRAPHED COPIES ARE NOW SOLD OUT but the regular version is still available

MASON WILLIAMS: The Mason Williams Phonograph Record. CD

Produced by Mike Post with arrangements by Al Capps, Mason Williams’ 1968 debut record for Warner Bros. scored a #1 hit with the instrumental “Classical Gas,” and went to #14 on the charts.

Both Albums Have Been Out of Print for Years

Features "That's Your Secret" and "A Lotta Colada"

New Liner Notes by Scott Schinder

SEA LEVEL: Cats on the Coast/On the Edge. CD

Sea Level started as an Allman Brothers offshoot, boasting three members (keyboardist Chuck Leavell, percussionist Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson and bassist Lamar Williams) from the mid-‘70s edition of the band, but became a major act in its own right with its tasty blend of jazz, blues and Southern rock (in other words, they would have fit nicely into today’s jam band scene).
